Thinking about the coming summer.

It will be a mix of photographs from today and yesterday that I show in this post. This is Bjurums church photographed with my mobile phone.

I´m sitting here in mu kitchen having a cup of tea and enjoying the sunshine that almost hurts my eyes. If this had been any other part of the year I most probably would have change place because the sun would have made me boil from its heat. But this time of year it gives no heat at all, it´s just shining giving hope of a brighter and warmer future. The heat comes from my stove and that´s not to bad either 🙂

I hate going shopping on a weekend, it makes me feel like I´ve lost a too important part of my time at home, so I usually do all shopping on fridays. But I was a bit to tired yesterday so I went this morning. I needed more blueberry soup and bought one liquid with healthy bacteria in it and two packages with powder. That will keep me going the rest of this weekend. But I am much better now, it´s just the tiredness that still stays like a faithful old dog.

Speaking of dogs by the way. I´m planning of letting a new one move in here next summer. I like to know that there never will be a time when it doesn´t live a dog by my side so now when my boys already are seven years old it´s time to think of a new one.

Not even a single track from any animals goes in to the Forbidden forest.

I want a dog that isn´t to small, nothing wrong with small dogs but I decided long ago that a dog in my home must make it if I should stumble and fall on it 🙂 🙂 🙂 I am a bit clumsy since I got my rheumatic disease and it happens that I stumble on my dogs in the dark 🙂 🙂 But it can´t be too big either because it must fit in the dog yard and dog house. So no chihuahuas or Grand danes 🙂

It´s hard to see the creek now when there´s snow everywhere.

I also want a dog that more or less will love the whole world and greet anyone with love and happiness, so no Chow either 🙂 Preferable not a dog with long hair either, short haired dogs are so much easier to keep clean  but I know what I´m like when I see a puppy 🙂 🙂 🙂 So that leaves me with dogs from a bigger spaniel to any retrievers or German shepherd or Rottweiler. But most likely it will be a mixed breed in the right size because they don´t cost that much to buy.

I want a puppy too, because I want my two boys to help me raise it too. Older dogs are perfect educators for a young puppy. But nothing of this will happen until next vacation, I want those four weeks from work to get the chance to know the little one before reality hits us and I´ll spend a lot of time at work again.

In here they say lots of Red deers, Fallow deers and moose lives.

So until then I´ll keep on looking at ads with dogs for sale. Now days it´s mostly really small dogs since they are the latest fashion. But every now and again perfect puppies shows up, like a couple of weeks ago when I saw this ad for Dalmatians. They were all blue eyed so they couldn´t be used for breeding or dog shows. That would have been perfect for me even if there were a big risk of them being deaf (something that can happen to Dalmatians). It is a much bigger challenge to have a deaf dog and it takes a lot of work to make it work. But if the owner uses signs and always tries to have eye contact with the dog it usually works fine, after many trials and errors 🙂 🙂 🙂

More snow, I´m so happy

Now it´s time to make a new pot of tea, drink some blueberry soup and after that have a little nap 🙂                                                                                                                                            Have a great day now, I will.

  1. i didn’t know that Dalmatians could be deaf? (döv) is that a common problem?
and is it a problem if they have blue eyes? what colour are their eyes expected to be, and why?
the poor doggies, why should there be such a problem if they have blue eyes?
good luck with the search for the puppy, and lovely photos of snow today!
all melting here, we got snow yesterday morning and then it thawed during the day,
very little snow left now and the roads are fine but we are not up in the hills or in a remote area, we live in the lowlands, about 20km from Limerick city and quite near the main road to the city, so getting around isn’t a major problem.

    • Hi Liz!
      I noticed that I had written death instead of deaf 🙂 🙂 🙂 I´ve changed that now 🙂 🙂
But yes it´s not that uncommon unfortunately. It´s a disease that dalmatians have. Many breeds has diseases that follows them from generation to generation and they think they have this because of inbreeding. I´m not sure if it follows the eye color but it does with white cats. A white cat with blue eyes are very often deaf. Their normal eye color is brown.

The New Foundland for instance have two other problems. If it gets grey color on its hair usually it lacks hair in places on the body. If they breed on only brown dogs they have a tendency to become aggressive after a couple of generations, so therefore they always mix in a black one from time to time.

We will get a couple of days with warmer air coming in, but we have to much snow so it won´t melt away especially much. Since winter just has started it might as well sty, we´ll only get more later on anyway 🙂 🙂

      Have a great day now!
      Christer.

      Christer.

  3. hi christer….well, this is very exciting news! but no chow chow? hehe…good idea! i can’t wait to see who the new puppy will be! will it be a boy or a girl? i bet the bouys will have fin with a new pup. it will be so fun to watch it grow up. i know how much you hate the snow but it is just gorgeous. joyce

    • Hi Joyce!
No Chow 🙂 To much of a one person dog 🙂
I´m not sure if it is going to be a boy or a girl. Both works since my boys are neutered. If it is a boy he most likely will be that too.

Even I have to admit that it looks beautiful outside now 🙂
      Have a great day now!
      Christer.

Men sjunker temperaturen hos dig! Här stiger den! Bara -4,5 nu.

      Ha det gott du med!
      Christer.

  5. Hi Christer,
I’m glad that we have similar taste in photographs but I’d be even happier if I had similar talent as well. Super photos today. Black and Silver is my favorite but only because I did a lot of black and white photography and it reminded me of that. I wanted to be another Ansel Adams. 🙂
If you’re going to continue having polar winters, you might want a dog that is furry. Dalmatians do not strike me as being all that winter hardy.
There is a deaf dog next door to me. She is a lovely Boston Terrier but feisty. She cannot hear and only knows signs for come and sit. The owners want to get a vibration collar for her so they can do more training but they have not done so. When she runs away, they can’t call her back because they can’t get her attention to sign to her. I send my dog after her and she follows him back. By the way, my dog is a chihuahua/terrier and he has been tripped over many times because I am clumsy too. He’s very tough and sturdy. He chased a coyote out of my front yard and would have chased it all the way down the street if I had let him. I wish he would go after squirrels with the same ferocity but he seems to like the little monsters. 🙂
Glad to hear you’re feeling better.

    • Hi Caryn!
I do like Black and Silver too but also Frozen sun. A new Ansel Adams! Well they say one should aim high 🙂 He is a fantastic photographer! But I have almost never tried black and white and it´s not possible to take black and white photos with my camera.

One must start really early with the signs if one has a deaf dog and a vibration collar is great to use! Good thing it follows Your dog home again 🙂
I met a vet that had two Dalmatians and they had no problems with our climate but there´s a problem with them, they never grow up 🙂 🙂 🙂 They behave like youngsters almost all their lives 🙂 🙂

I can hear in my head how it sounds when I fall on a small dog and it´s not a nice sound 🙂 🙂 🙂 But it is fun how these tiny dogs can chase away animals that are big as a coyote or even bigger 🙂 🙂 They are tough ones, can´t argue against that 🙂 But still, I hear that sound 🙂 🙂 🙂

The only animals my dogs actually chases is squirrels 🙂 I can´t understand why though since they don´t care for any other animal they see 🙂 🙂

      Have a great day now!
      Christer.

      • You are right about Dalmatians never growing up. The only dog I know that is sillier is Irish Setters. Not only do they never grow up, they like to wander far and wide.
Nowadays, I guess you do black and white in Photoshop. Unless you can find actual film somewhere and can develop it in your basement. I used the bathroom as a darkroom but I had to wait until Thursday nights because that was when everyone was out of the house for a few hours. Ah, the sacrifices we make for our art. 😀 😀 😀

      • 🙂 So true 🙂 Irish setters are really silly, but wonderfully happy all the time 🙂

My old little came could take photos in black and white but I have to admit that from the little experience I have from that I think it´s much harder than color photographing!

Yes we have to make sacrifices for our art 🙂

        Take care!
        Christer.

  6. Hi Christer, You take such interesting photographs. I love looking at the changing seasons. I like snow and cold weather personally, maybe because where I now live we don’t get too much of it. Your dogs always look like they’re having so much fun in the snow too! Have a good weekend.

    • Hi Terria!
I think I might like our winter too if I lived somewhere winter didn´t exist 🙂 🙂 🙂

Orvar and Hector loves all this snow 🙂 If they could decide we would never go inside again 🙂 🙂
      Have a great day now!
      Christer.

  7. I always look forward to viewing your blog, and seeing the great shots you take of your world. The forest looks amazing, and I think though Frozen Sun is my favorite today. The boys look like they could stay outside forever!! I am excited about the prospect of a new puppy! It is going to be hard to wait till Summer to see who you bring home. We have two dogs, and I would love to add a third, but also since we just lost our sweet cat 4 months ago, I would like to get another cat. So, like you, we shall wait till summer to see who or what we might get!!!
Enjoy your snowy weekend. We are getting snow today, probably 7 inches or so. It does look beautiful!

    • Hi Robin!
I think Frozen sun is my favorite too.
The boys could stay out all hours of the day if I didn´t force them inside, this is their weather 🙂

I´m really curios about what new family member that will come to me this coming summer 🙂 There is one breed I really would like to have, but it´s wrong in many ways 🙂 It´s Douge de Bordeaux, the one You can see in the movie “Turner and Hooch”. To much of a guard dog really and it will have troubles with our cold winters I´m afraid.

So a new cat for You and a new dog for me 🙂 We have to show them when they arrive 🙂

      Have a great day!
      Christer.

  8. Oh My! I have A LOT that I want to write to you! As you know, I have Blue my Great Dane mix (probably mixed with Lab) and he’s deaf. I have to tell you that he is my BEST behaved dog that I have. He is SO easy. He comes immediately when I hand signal him and sits when I signal. He will walk into my kitchen and look at the countertop (which is chin level for him!) to see if there’s anything yummy to eat there and then look back at me as I sit in the living room to see if I’m watching and I will wiggle my finger at him and he walks away. There is that draw back that he can’t hear me if I needed to call him back to me but I don’t let him off lead except when we arrive to my job. I will open the back of the van and he loves to spring out and runs to the girls who are standing there smoking. He’s so happy and then he runs back to me. He watches me ALL the time, It’s so easy with him. And yes, he has blue eyes. hence his name. I also have my Chihuahua and you are right, they do get under foot but in my house all the little dogs travel in a little “herd” so it’s not that difficult. If you want to see all my dogs (and how insane I must be) check out my FLICKR account http://www.flickr.com/photos/oldblackcatboo
You might want to think about a mix like my Ralphie. He has Jack Russell in him but something else that has soft wavy hair. So he doesn’t shed but does need to be groomed. He’s feisty and so smart. He loves chasing the squirrels and jumps up into the trees after them.
My next dog (but not for a long time, probably when Blue starts to get old) will be a Golden Retriever. I had a Golden for 12 years and then only thing that dog did wrong was to break my heart when she died. My Maddie was truly perfect and I’m starting to cry as I think of her. I loved her and grieve for her more than a lot of people I’ve known. I just couldn’t bear to get another Golden when she passed because I didn’t want to compare any poor dog to her. No one could have lived up to her. So it’s been six years now….and maybe in another 5 years, I will be ready to try again.
So I recommend a Golden. Or a mixed breed that really needs you to save their life!
Sorry, this is so long but my dogs are the loves of my life!
    🙂 – Cindi

    • Hi Cindi!
I was actually thinking of Blue when I wrote about deaf dogs 🙂 and if one only starts real early the dog learns to always look before doing anything.

I´ll take a look at Your dogs right after this 🙂
Golden retrievers are fantastic dogs, but are actually the most “dangerous” dog to have around You. Not because they are dangerous at all, but so full of life and happy that they tend to push people around so they fall 🙂 🙂 🙂 My first dog was a mix between Golden retriever and to swedish hunting dogs called Hamiltonstövare and Drever. She looked like a Golden puppy so no one got angry when she did stuff she wasn´t allowed to 🙂 🙂 🙂 If I got the chance I would get another like that 🙂

      Have a great day!
      Christer.

  9. We had a Retreiver which was a good dog. Loved the water. But I agree that Jaz has the perfect dog if you want a cuddle dog, someone to sleep in your bed and look funny face all the time. We are thinking of breeding Persians but that conversation comes and goes. We just love the Himmie breed, laugh a minute, and would rather enjoy the lighter side of a Persian without the inbreeding of the Siamese. Dogs are off our list since the one who lived with us for 17 years died. We could never go back to that again. Wonderful photos today Christer and I hope you enjoy your B soup.

    • Hi Z&M!
I guess it will be a retriever of some kind for me. The only problem with Chow Chows is that they are a one person dog. They adore that person but not necessarily the rest of the family 🙂 🙂 🙂 But they are cute little lions 🙂

I have to say that I prefer Himalayans before persians! But then again, I love Siamese’s they are just wonderful in all their weirdness 🙂 🙂 🙂

Thankfully I love blueberry soup 🙂
      Have a great day!
      Christer.

      Christer.

  11. Christer, I have heard wonderful things about Golden Retrievers. But..again..expensive. How about a medium sized dog. 🙂 You won’t kill it if you step on it..and it won’t crowd you out of bed…
Ah..but then you are used to it…:)
Anyway..that is my suggestion. I know they are very friendly..
Oh..gosh..the thought of going through a puppyhood again..but then you are young enough that it won’t be as difficult for you.
The chewing days..potty training days…but..like you I don’t want to be without a dog.

    It’s bed time here..so..have a good day, Christer…see you tomorrow! 🙂
    Mona

    • Hi Mona!
I think a dog from the size of an English cocker spaniel up to the size of a Golden retriever is what I´m looking for. But it must be big enough so I don´t kill it if/when I fall on it 🙂 🙂 🙂
Those reasons is why I´m getting it on my vacation 🙂 🙂 So I can stay up late to let it go out to do its business and I´m always up early to let it out also. But I know I´ll be to late many times anyway 🙂 🙂 🙂

I remember when old Erna´s mother got her and her brothers. I don´t think I have ever been so tired and still it was one of the funniest periods in my life. Viran got seven puppies and it was just as fun and exhausting when Erna got her four 🙂 🙂 🙂

      Have a good nights sleep!
      Christer.
