The continuing annoying story about my thumb.

All photographs comes from my “new” camera today. I’ve done nothing more than adjusting the size on them.

So off to the doctor I went and I can’t say it looked nice beneath the bandages. The doctor smelled the wound and said it smelled dead skin. I guess I should be happy he didn’t say it smelled like rotten meat šŸ™‚ šŸ™‚ šŸ™‚ To be honest, it doesn’t smell that much but if one comes close one can feel some strange smell. So he gave me a new antibiotic and then a nurse cleaned the wound thoroughly with some special antibacterial soap. She even scrubbed hard this time so now I hope thet have gotten rid of anything nasty still in there.

This time they let the wound stay open so that it can start to dry, something I think they should have done as soon as they saw that it was infected. Now it finally can dry and start to heal properly, I really don’t mind if my thumb might look a bit strange in the future šŸ™‚ šŸ™‚ I suddenly got hit by high fever, sweating like a pig and boiling inside. But suddenly the fever dropped like a stone and now I’m back to normal again. I guess the new antibiotic has started to work in my body because the thumb itches like crazy right now šŸ™‚

It has rained most of the day and the wind has been almost as strong as yesterday. But small gaps allowed the sun to shine down on us as soon as my dogs and I started our walk. I brought the “new” camera with me and all photographs comes from that in todays post. I haven’t read the instructions yet so I had it on automatic the whole time. I have to say that it really is a good camera. It do have some problems towards pale backgrounds though, either the photograph becomes really dark or almost totally white šŸ™‚ šŸ™‚ Otherwise it works very well.

The Super Nova.

Hector.

Orvar waiting for us to finally start walking again šŸ™‚

I feel it will be an early night tonight. The fever made me very tired and that hasn’t let go even if the fever has. So I’ll make a pot of tea, perhaps a sandwich and then I think I’ll go to bed and perhaps read a book. Or I might look at some episodes of the sitcom Friends, I bought the first season the other week and have enjoyed a couple of shows now and again šŸ™‚

Some of the Cherry trees are blossoming in the forest now.

Daffodils, or as we call them Pentecost lilies, behind my garage.

Mecenopsis cambrica, Welsh poppy. We call them English poppy. The easy sibling to the Blue poppy. This behaves much like a weed, nothing the Blue poppy never does.

Checkered lilies, they also behaves like weeds in my garden but that’s ok with me šŸ™‚

Uvularia grandiflora, my absolute favorite amongst the woodland plants I have.

Have a great day!

  1. more thumb problems…..i read about yours and i cringe. mine is still very painful. i pulled lots of muscles in my right hand and arm moving the heavy pots around. it is weird how something like this can be so annoying. i did lots of work in my garden this morning and still have not made a dent in what needs to be done. it must have really hurt when they scrubbed your thumb. cringe again! joyce

    • Hi Joyce!
I did hope it would look good when the bandage was removed but oh how wrong I was šŸ™‚
I can imagine how much Your thumb hurts. But I have to admit that it wasn’t that bad when the nurse scrubbed my wound and that sort of made me worry šŸ™‚ I mean if someone scrubs in a wound it should hurt shouldn’t it šŸ™‚

We do need our thumbs more than we might know šŸ™‚ It must have been difficult working in the garden with only one healthy hand! I guess You’ll feel worse tomorrow so please rest some so You don’t over do it!

      Have a great day!
      Christer.

  2. Your thumb had better get better, soon, Christer! I will hold my thumbs that it will! The camera has taken very good photos! Well, you have so many great things to take photos of, too. Have a superior weekend!!

    • Hi Robin!
Yes it better get well soon! I am a bit tired of this now šŸ™‚

The photos are very clear, they are actually clearer than the ones my Nikon takes. It is amazing how good they can make small cameras now days!

      Have a great day!
      Christer.

  3. Ouch! I feel for you and your thumb! Chris continues to struggle with his infection as well. Actually, he went back to the dermatologist on Thursday and she said his staff infection has definitely gotten under control. His face looks good…like the man I married! But, his arm and hand…oh my, just awful. One side effect of the antibiotic that he is on is photosensitivity. Well, that doesn’t work out too well when you vacation in Florida! For some reason though, the infection that had spread to his hand and arm is not healing up as his face/neck/ears did. So, she biopsied a spot on his arm and we are waiting to hear what this might be. He’s now on a steroid cream to promote the healing…b/c open wounds are just not a good thing.

Anyway, your new camera takes awesome pictures! I hope to someday explore those woods where you live…they seem so magical to me…I bet a ton of woodland fairies make that place their home!!! šŸ™‚

    • Hi Valerie!
And I feel for Chris! These infections can stay for too long, for ever it feels like sometimes šŸ™‚ But I’m surprised the antibiotics only worked in his face and not the rest of him?! I have not any problems with photo sensitivity, well not so far anyway. As You say not a good thing in places with lots of sunshine. I do hope he will get better soon! I think that an open wound is good when it comes to deep cuts but never when it comes to things like Your Chris has.

I only show You the good parts of the forest here šŸ™‚ but those parts are magical šŸ™‚ and I’ve seen things out on the bog that is, I’m not sure what to call it, strange? šŸ™‚

      Have a great day!
      Christer.

  4. Vilka vackra bilder Christer!

      Christer.

  5. Hi Christer,
Maybe now your thumb will improve. Hope so anyway.
The new camera does a great job. All my photos are done with a point and shoot digital Panasonic Lumix and it does a good job. Every now and then I get frustrated because I try to make it to do something beyond its capabilities but most of the time it’s just fine. I only need one hand to use it which is great because the other hand is hanging on to the dog leash. šŸ™‚
Nova looks good in her harness. Very relaxed and happy.

    • Hi Caryn!
I do hope so! I’m getting a bit tired of this now šŸ™‚
I think I can handle this camera with one hand too at least when I can use my thumb again šŸ™‚ But Nova has thankfully understood that she must stand completely still when I use my camera šŸ™‚

I think she likes that harness a lot. very little pulling now days and nothing around her neck irritating her either.

      Have a great day!
      Christer.

  6. Put that thumb to bed! Enough already. Cute photos of the dogs. Not sure I can figure out the harness on Nova but it looks comfortable. Have a great weekend. Put your thumb in a jar.

    • Hi Z&M!
I do wish I could put that thumb in a jar šŸ™‚

The harness is actually very simple and she seems to like it a lot, no more pulling thankfully.

      Have a great day!
      Christer.

  7. OK, I’m not a doctor nor do I play one on TV but…..
whenever I have a cut or deep scrape on my hands it seems to heal very quickly and I’ll tell you why I think it does.
BUT I am NOT telling YOU to do this.
I wash my dishes and also I’m washing a lot of dog dishes and etc. at work and I use very hot water, dish soap and bleach.
I think the bleach kills whatever might be lurking inside the cut.
Now I’m not saying this is good to do and my hands do look like crap, but I just forget to put gloves on most of the time.
so….I’m not saying to do that. but…..

    • Hi Cindi!
Normally I do much the same but in this case the cut was just too deep. I split my thumb from the top and a bit more that 2/3 of an inch down. They had too put four stitches on my thumb to keep it together šŸ™‚ šŸ™‚ šŸ™‚
But normally I agree with You, doing dishes keeps all cuts and bruises clean from everything šŸ™‚

      Have a great day!
      Christer.

  8. Hi Christer, thanks for the info about the auction win. While I am getting rid of things on ebay, I have not been buying anything. However, I am watching a few auctions just for fun. My older Fuji also seems to “eat” batteries especially when I use Duracell brand rechargeable batteries in it. I switched to Rayovac brand and it is doing much better. But, like yours, this old one is only a spare that I use for taking photos of items to sell on ebay. It really has a terrific macro settings for closeups. Hope the thumb starts getting better with the new drugs and also hope there is no “gas” explosion too. Really enjoyed these outdoor shots in this post.

    • Hi Beatrice!
It is fun with auctions but it can be addictive as well šŸ™‚ But I know what I want and will keep to that from now on šŸ™‚ This camera was just a lucky one time try šŸ™‚ I did buy a cheap brand of batteries so that might have something to do with it, but I think it’s cheaper in the long run to buy rechargeable ones.

I’m surprised over how good this camera is! I didn’t try the macro though, it was when I was going to do that the batteries died šŸ™‚ šŸ™‚

I do hope my thumb will get better too! I’m so tired of this now and I’m tired of worrying about my hip implants. But since I’ve had very little fever I don’t think there’s any risk of getting the infection beneath those.

I’ll open up all windows and doors before starting a fire in the stove šŸ™‚

      Have a great day!
      Christer.
