Slippery, slippery!

It´s a rather warm morning,1,4C (34,3F) and the snow is melting rather fast now. But to be honest, it´s most noticeable on the roads and the roofs on our houses.  It´s still around 40 cm (16 inches) out on the fields. The roads however there´s no snow at all, just shiny ice 🙂 🙂 It´s more or less impossible to walk on those roads that has been plowed at the moment.

Try to walk on this road 🙂 🙂 🙂

So when we were taking our morning walk I had to walk out in to the fields to be able to get to the forest. But on the roads that only has been plowed once or twice these last weeks it´s no problems at all. It´s a rather wonderful morning, despite the icy roads and I could hear the first spring song from the Great Tits just now.

Thankfully not all roads are icy.

I thought I would have fewer birds by the feeders now but it doesn´t look like that. The Bullfinches and some other “forest birds” won´t come for a while now, they do prefer to eat what they can find in the forest and now when the snow is melting it´s so much easier for them to find food in the forest. But this is just a temporary rise of temperatures so they´ll be back.

I´m not sure I´ll make it to work tomorrow 🙂 🙂

It´s time to take my tea and a couple of sandwiches up to the tv. They will show lots of cross country skiing today and later on also Cross country Biathlon, one of my favorite sports to look at. That´s a bit strange really since I really don´t like guns or rifles and they use rifles in that sport. You might wonder why I´m against guns and rifles? Today I think it is enough that I mention Arizona.                                                                                                   Take care my friends!

  1. Good morning, Sunshine! 🙂

It’s 4 AM in my neck of the woods…and SNOW is gently falling. The Weather Channel has issued a Winter Storm Watch (wait…the first snow plow JUST drove by!) for eastern Kansas and western Missouri! wooo whoooo!!! My littles are gonna be in heaven!

Wow, those streets are icy! That’s what happens when all that snow melts and then the temps drop at night around here. Be careful out there.

I’ve been watching CNN. I have no words. Just prayers for all those touched by this senseless tragedy in AZ.

My first job out of college was working for a United States Senator. Back in the 90s we didn’t call them Town Hall meetings. Rather, our were dubbed “Listening Posts”. Has a softer ring to it…don’t you agree? Town Hall meeting conjures up thoughts of anger/disrespect/violence in my mind. Sure glad I got out of the political arena. I have too soft a heart for that line of work!

Eyes getting sleepy. Back to bed for me. Little ones are sleeping with mama tonight as daddy is on-duty! Who needs dogs when you’ve got 3 kids! 😉

    Blessings,
    Val

    • Hi Valerie!
I can imagine how happy Your children will be when they see that snow 🙂 🙂 🙂

It´s terrible what has happened in Arizona! It seems the young man that did it have psychological problems and that someone else has driven him to do this. For what I know they are searching for another man that they think is around 50 years old. I guess that man has political ideas with this.

For me those to different names sounds much the same 🙂 🙂 We don´t have that kind of thing here 🙂

Have a good nights sleep 🙂
      Christer.

  2. Hi Christer!
I really like to see your photos. Shows a very different world from what I know, and everything is so beautiful. Make me happy 🙂
Now this seems really slippery like as soap! You need to wear shoes with spikes for walking? I’m clumsy that it would take many falls when walking!
Christer … I do not understand this “song from Big Tits”. Can you explain?
When I read, I saw a pair of tits floating in the sky, and tits singing hahaha
The idea was very funny 🙂
    I’m laughing!!!

    • Hi Didi!
When we are coming closer to spring our birds (like the Great Tit, it is a bird name nothing else 🙂 🙂 🙂 ) changes their singing. During winter it´s just short songs but when spring comes they sing very different. The one that sings the best gets the female he wants. I guess that doesn´t happen in Your climate. Then the birds continue to sing as beautiful as they can for most of the summer too. But when autumn and winter comes they silents down again.

The roads are terrible at the moment and I hope I can get up that little sloap tomorrow morning 🙂 🙂 🙂

      Have a great day now!
      Christer.

      • Ohhhh my God … these differences of language!
Sometimes it gives a lot of confusion 🙂

      • 🙂 🙂 🙂
It´s not good when languages changes and words suddenly can mean something else 🙂 🙂 🙂 I had so much fun when I realized what You must imagine 🙂 🙂 🙂
        Christer.

      Christer.

  4. Yikes, I hate ice! I fell when I was a child, on icy stone steps, and received a terrible ice burn on my face. Ever since, I am scared of ice! I love the photos of your boys and their flapping ears when they run, as if they are about to take off flying!! As for the tragedy in Arizona, and all the countless other shootings that have occurred, the idea of banning guns is as important as ever, but likely will never ever happen, as too many politicians love their guns. An awful awful thing.
But we have your photos to enjoy, and thoughts of spring, still far away, to enliven our spirits! Robin.

    • Hi Robin!
I´m not a big fan of ice on the roads either. But I used to be a good skater when I was young, not on roads though 🙂 🙂

I don´t think anything much will happen over at Yours either, the right to own a weapon is too rooted in Your culture. We have strict laws over here, but the numbers of illegal weapons is growing unfortunately.

      Have a great day now!
      Christer.

  5. I hate to listen to the news. I prefer to stick my head in the sand or snow or whatever. But I know it’s out there. The evil and hate in the world. I don’t think it helps to have people like Palin making up hit lists with a bullseye over the photo….but she will say she is in no way responsible. I swear, if she were to be elected President, I’d have to seriously think about moving…maybe to Canada or France!
I suppose it’s possible in this country of people who prefer “bathroom humor-type movies and walk around in too tight shirts with bare bellies and butt cracks hanging out. Yep, a country where more people vote for American Idol than they do the Presidential race…..my only wish is that all these people will be too busy sleeping it off or hanging out at Walmart, to remember to vote.
Um, now I’ll go stick my head back in the snow and try to make believe all is right with the world.
    🙂 – Cindi

    • Hi Cindi!
We´re opposites then:-) I listen to news as often as I can 🙂

I think most of us would be scared if Paling got voted! I´m convinced that she would be a danger to all of us if she got that power! Unfortunately it´s her followers that wouldn´t miss the chance to vote if that day comes.

      Have a great day now!
      Christer.

  6. hi christer! those roads look horrible. i would not go near them. i can drive through anything but no one can drive on ice. this arizona situation is just unreal. i feel so sorry for all the families involved. at least they caught the guy that did it. hopefully some change will come from this tragedy!

    • Hi Joyce!
Horrible is a bit to kind 🙂 🙂 🙂 It´s absolutely impossible to walk on them even when I used spikes under my rubber boots 🙂 It´s going to be exiting to try to drive up my little road tomorrow morning 🙂 🙂 .-)

I understand that they are searching for a second man too. I sure do hope they´ll catch him soon! Yes lets hope for change!

      Have a great day now!
      Christer.

  7. hi Christer, how are you ?
Our holidays are finishing and yours ?
Tomorrow morning school and work will start and everyone will go out during all day….
Sping it’s coming in Italy : green grass, sunlight till six o’clock , warm in central part of day and mimosa tree in blooming.
Mister Winter is not goes by but…..when the sun it’s with us sping it’s near too.
Your light too has changed and the temperature : your dogs seem to appreciate .
    Take care of you …..
    Adri

    • Hi Adriana!
Yes our holidays are over and now we have nothing until easter late in April. But we are very far from spring here 🙂 🙂 If we´re lucky it comes in the middle of March if we´re unlucky it comes late in April like last year. The sun doesn´t give any heat yet either, hopefully it starts giving heat in february. I wish I could live in Your climate 🙂 🙂

This is just a temporary change in temperature, February is usually our coldest month, so I´ll enjoy this as long as it stays 🙂

      Have a great day now!
      Christer.

  8. Okay, those roads mean “inside reading,” pure and simple… How can you tell Orvar and Hector apart in that snow? You would think their litttle paws would get cold! We were supposed to have rain and snow — and — nothing happened… Like my grandpa used to say, “If you want to know what the weather will be, look outside!”

Enjoy your tea and TV… Oh, all my followers avatars have appeared, so most everything is right with the world… but, I did lose the comments. 8-(

    • Hi Sharlene!
Yes it was a lot of inside today 🙂 But we did get out on the fields and that was more difficult than I had thought 🙂 🙂 16 inches of snow with a thick crust of ice 🙂 🙂 🙂 Orvar and Hector got so tired that they refused to walk first, they stopped and walked after me in my tracks 🙂 🙂

I do have problems to tell which one is which 🙂 But Orvar is bigger and he has a shorter tail, Hectors head is more shaped like a german shepherd and Orvars like a labrador.

So things are going back to normal again 🙂

      Have a great day now!
      Christer.

  9. Yes, don’t mention Arizona. It’s on the news constantly as it should be especially if this was politically motivated by the brain trust of Glenn Beckkk and Rush LImbaugh. People who incite people to kill. And of course our gun laws here keep expanding and ammo is cheap. This country is going to hell. The roads look slick but why couldn’t you drive them to work tomorrow? I was used to driving and sliding cars on roads like that up in Virginia. Of course, I was much younger then. The Photos are a nice selection and maybe you can get a shot of the birds at the feeder when they return. Mine are gone beachside where they get fed very well this time of the year. Enjoy your TV shows.

    • Hi Z&M!
A lunatic can of course get a weapon anyway, but in the US I feel it´s way to easy for them.

That road is a bit steeper than it looks and I have no spikes on my tires. The rest of the roads in the village is just as icy, so even if I had made it op this little slope I´m not sure I would make it out of the village 🙂 🙂

      Have a great day now!
      Christer.

  10. Hi Christer, hope you are able to get up the icy slope with your car. As for the news, senseless tragedies dominate the news every day and this one as another example of how many crazy people are allowed to get weapons. This is why I don’t listen to a lot of news – just the basics. We have TVs but only have an antenna in the attic and no cable service (personal choice) so we do not have a lot of channels to watch because most would be premium channels available through a cable service. But we also do not have any TV bills so there is a good side to this. We have more holidays coming – Valentine’s Day (Feb 14) and Easter (late April) . Most stores had Valentine’s items out even before the Christmas items were removed, yet today I saw Easter candy advertised in one store’s advertisement. This is really rushing a holiday!

    • Hi Beatrice!
It was the top news here yesterday and today too. Like You I only have a common antenna and no cable. But we do have to pay a license anyway (like in all of Europe). I have to pay that license if I have a Tv or/and Video/DVD player, a computer with a tv card. But the strange thing is that I don´t have to pay if I only have an antenna??? Without an antenna I won´t see much tv if I don´t have cable 🙂 🙂 🙂

Valentine has never really made it over here, perhaps to close to Christmas? Í don´t think they´ll have any easter advertisements until late March.

      Have a great day now!
      Christer.

  11. Hi Christer,
Love the fiery sky photos. The icy road is not very inviting. I would definitely have spikes on my shoes and in my tires, too. I hit black ice once. The car turned a complete circle and skidded toward the slope that led down to a pond. I tried to get control but nothing worked. I didn’t find out what it was like to go backwards downhill into the pond. The 3 bales of hay in the trunk weighed enough to push the car down into the snow and it stopped.
The biathlon skiing/shooting thing does seem a strange sort of combination for a sport until you remember that it was a military exercise. If you have to defend a snow covered country, you should probably be able to do both of those things at the same time.
Hope you enjoyed your sandwiches and skiing.

    • Hi Caryn!
Those are favorites of mine too 🙂

I have spikes on my shoes but unfortunately not on my tires. So no driving today 🙂
It is awful to feel that one has absolutely no control of the car when it hits ice! I´ve been lucky so far and have had no bigger accidents. But next time I´ll buy tires with spikes on 🙂

      Have a great day now!
      Christer.
