Soon night will rule my world.

The weekend is almost over, it is amazing how fast it has passed. The autumn equinox has passed and now times will become darker. I think it perhaps is more noticeable up here in the north since we during summerΒ only have a few hours of darkness but during winter have very few hours with daylight. Winters here can be much milder than for instance in the USA, but ours is so much longer and that’s what I don’t like.

But we can often have long periods with high pressure, cold but clear nights when we can see more stars and galaxies than we can count and for us with some kind of fireplace winter does get a bit nicer πŸ™‚ I love to sit in the kitchen listening to the cracking sound from burning wood and feeling the heat spreading through the cottage. Sometimes I have no lights on and then the deers jumps in to the garden in their search for frozen apples on the ground.

I love to walk out to the edge of the bog when the daylight slowly dies to watch out over the open spaces. Sometimes I might see a deer or a moose, perhaps a fox or even a marten run from one island to another. Sometimes I see something completely else that I can’t explain what it is. I always return home before the daylight is completely gone. On cold winters the bog freezes and gets so hard that I can walk all the way down to the small lake. I no longer get surprised when I can’t see my own tracks in the snow when walking home the same way again.

My cottage is warm and nice after a couple of hours with a fire burning in the stove. The smell of fried food is everywhere since there’s no fan above the stove. I don’t mind but sometimes it seems to drive my dogs crazy πŸ™‚ I usually give them a treat or two those days πŸ™‚ Dinner is made for a couple of days and now I’ll make a pot of tea, the night is coming and soon I’ll be sleeping.

Have a great day!

and down he goes πŸ™‚

  1. You have written poetically of your coming winter. Being enveloped in darkness for so long, your cottage must be so warm, cozy and welcoming with the fire burning and your sweet family all gathered around.

  2. hi christer! sune and nova are just too cute playing together. wonder what lurks out on the bog? it is a scarey place! it is cold enough today for me to have boots on! i am really enjoying it!!! joyce

    • Hi Joyce!

I’m so happy that those two get along so great! Sune seems to accept that Nova is the queen of the Universe πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

I don’t feel the bog is scary really but a strange place. I can’t say what’s out there but I’ve seen things that don’t make since, Something walking out there or that my tracks in the snow sort of get swept away shortly after I’ve made them. I can walk the exact same way home and still there’s not a single foot print left in the snow even if the wind doesn’t blow. I would never get out there during the night though πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

I’m glad You finally have gotten cool weather! You must have had more than six months of summer this year!

Have a great day in the cool weather!

  3. This is our favorite time ofvyearvhere because it is finally cooler during the day and more at night, but not enough that we need to use the furnish or gas fireplaces, so we can save on those bills. Also, the electric bill is less as we can turn off the air conditioners. The leaves are still green and on the trees until at least early November or perhaps late October. You painted a lovely scene with your post today especially about the cozy cottage and listening to the sounds of nature.

    • Hi Beatrice!

My favorite time of year is spring, when the daylight finally returns and with that hopefully warmer and nicer weather, not much of that this year though. This is the time of year when our electricity bills grow a lot! I pay very little during summer and spring but soon it will hurt inside when paying those bills πŸ™‚

      Have a great day!

  4. Christer,
I love the first picture most of all, and the two dogs, Nova and Sune, seem to be having such great fun together.

I look forward to taking walks with you. Here I never see all the animals, especially the deer you see every day.

Nothing sounds better than that crackle of wood you mentioned, and the smell of a wood fire fills my senses. Enjoy your tea!

    • Hi Kat!

I think Z&M would have liked that one too πŸ™‚ My favorite as well πŸ™‚

I think those deers will keep away soon because sooner or later they will start hunting them again, especially if they can’t shoot any moose this year. I wish they wouldn’t because we have very few deers here.

I love that sound and smell, well the smell when it is outside πŸ™‚

      Have a great day!
