The Antiques Roadshow.
The snowdrops are ready to open up any day now.
Do You like me, like to watch the Antiques roadshow? Do You like me smile when the things they show isn’t worth even close to what the owner had expected 🙂 🙂 🙂 It has happened that the owners tells the experts that they are wrong in the valuation 🙂 🙂 🙂 But perhaps I like it even more when the owner get so surprised that they just don’t know what to do or belive. A couple of weeks ago a swedish lady came to our version of this program and showed some, I think it was lithographs. It seems she had rather many up on her attic and thought it mostly was crap.
I had planned on walking around the village today but with roads like this I went down to the creek instead. The roads weren't slippery at all where the cars hadn't been.
Small forest mice dig tunnels in the thick snow and when the snow melts this is what remains. Looks like a big worm has done it 🙂
Well it was no crap and for every new lithograph the amount got higher and higher and she just couldn’t understand it. I don’t think I laughed that much in a long time. Finally the amount was so high that she sort of just shut down her brain looking as if she didn’t know if she should laugh or cry 🙂 🙂 🙂 That happens very rarely though. One time there was this man who had bought a small porcelain duck for less than a cup of coffee and it turned out that it was from China, very old and very valuable 🙂 If I bought a porcelain duck it most likely would be the other way around. Very expensive but worth nothing 🙂 🙂 🙂
We can at the moment see both the swedish version and the british one at the moment. It started in Brittain 1977 and they have visited both Denmark and Sweden quite early after they started making this show. Lots of countries now have their own roadshows and this seems to be an idea that will last for a long time. We’ve had it every year since 1989 and it never lose its popularity.
But we rarely have those extremely valuable antiques in our show, like they have in Britain. Not so strange perhaps since the British empire was huge and they brought home lots of things from all places on earth. Lots of people have also moved to Britain, it always seem like some thing they show on their show comes from a Russian great duchess or princess or something like that and then the things are worth several hundred thousand pounds. Very few grand duchesses moved to Sweden 🙂 🙂
The snow started to fall when we went out for our second walk today. But it melts as soon as it hits the ground and I hope it will continue like that because it will be rather cold tonight.
This and next one is photographed through an old window so they aren't as sharp as I would like to.

I love Antique Road Show…recently saw one where someone had bought a rhino horn cup for some ridiculous amount at a yard sale…and it was worth close to half a million dollars. I always think about the person watching who had tossed ‘this ugly old thing’ onto the yard sale table hoping it would bring in a few dollars….

It is a great show and it is those moments that makes it so much better. But I have to admit that I most probably would have missed that cup and all that money it’s worth 🙂 🙂 🙂 I just hope the previous owner doesn’t look at the antiques roadshow 🙂 🙂

Njae, jag tittar inte längre på antikrundan. Tycker det är så jobbigt när dom visar saker från 50/60/70-talet och talar om hur värdefulla sakerna är. Som Lisa Larssons keramik eller Lindbergs porslin t.ex.! 😦
Anledningen är att min mamma och min svärmor var fenomenala på att inhandla sådant och när sen våra föräldrahem skulle tömmas efter det våra föräldrar gått bort, så kunde vi inte spara allt. Av utrymmesskäl, men framför allt för att man i det läget inte orkar med att titta på och värdera allt. Det kändes lite som man värderade deras liv! 😦 😦 Så till slut packade vi bara ihop alla fina saker i lådor och sålde allt. 😦 😦 😦
Det är klart att vi sparade naturligtvis en hel del också, men nu ångrar man ju en del saker man gjorde sig av med. Men å andra sidan är det väl förhoppningsvis så att dom sakerna finns hos andra som uppskattar dom. Vi sålde nämligen allt till en liten fin antik & presentaffär i en småstad. 🙂
Nu har vi dessutom samlat på oss en massa här, så det är nog time för en liten loppis. Har åtminstone ett 10-tal lådor med fina småsaker (bl.a. en hel samling på c:a 30-35 vackra karaffer, en urgammal våg, massor av pocketböcker m.m. m.m. ) så det vore kul att hinna med det nåt år. 🙂 🙂
Fast…jag tror trädgården måste fixas till först så man kan visa den för folk igen! 🙂 🙂 🙂

Fast de är ju värdefulla numera 🙂 Men man skall nog inte tänka på hur man borde gjort, trots allt är det bara saker och inget annat.Måste erkänna att jag gärna haft lite av Lindbergs porslin här hemma, men jag är så klumpig att jag fort skulle decimera antalet 🙂 🙂 🙂

Ja ni har väl en hel del att ställa iordning nu efter all grävning! Inget jag avundas även om ni nu kan pröva på något nytt som ni kanske funderat på så man får se sådant arbete som en möjlighet hur jobbigt och trist det än kan vara 🙂

oh yes we watch the antuquesroad show, all the time, the U.S version and the Brirtish one.It comes on our public television station, we live right on the border so we get all U.S programing here in Canada.They have come to Canada to do some shows but we are a relatively young country in comparism to U.S and Europe.We just don’t have as many really old things like they do in U.K. I would love to dig up a sword in my back garden,.
All we ever found here on our farm were arrow heads from the indians.The plow unearthed them, about 24 we have found.

So no grand duchess moved to You either then 🙂 Seems to have been a lot of them around back in the days so I think they could have spread better when the revolution happened in Russia 🙂
We havbe them on public tv as well and both the swedish and britrish show is very popular here. I haven’t found anything while digging in my garden, this is otherwise a place where people digs up old stone tools all the time 🙂 🙂

i love that show! it is so fun to see the peoples reactions. i need those guys to come to my house and help me get rid of some of my stuff. i thought maybe you make the swedish limpa bread. it is a bit sweet. i think i like russian rye a bit better. however, we all had ham sandwiches on it today and it was very good! joyce

It is a bit sweet but I have to admit I usually makes it less sweet, it tastes much better then 🙂 I often use some honesy instead as well, very little though just enough for the yeast.

We really enjoy Antiques Roadshow, and love when an innocent, older person gets the news of the lifetime that their “old piece of junk” is worth an amazing amount of money. But I also like it when some snobby person thinks they have the most valuable thing, and it turns out to be worth a paltry sum, lol, love that!! When I go to yard sales I always hope I will stumble across some incredible thing that I will buy for a $1.00 and then find out that is a priceless antique. What a dream that would be. Ofcourse I know that in reality, the chances of that happening are the same as finding aliens living in the basement!, lol! Icy roads where you are today, those are the worst. But I do love your bird photos, and also the pictures of the birch trees. Beautiful. I can’t believe your snow drops are almost blooming!!!

It would be fun to find that special thing every one else missing 🙂 Yard sales and garage sales are getting more popular over here now and we do have a couple of secondhand stores but I doubt they’ll ever get anything really valuable 🙂 🙂
The snowdrops started early because of the warm and long autumn, so they just took a break when the snow came 🙂

Christer, ANtiques Roadshow is my favorite and I used to watch it on our PBS (public bradcasting station) on Monday nights. But, since we only have an antenna in the attic, the reception tends to get spotty and at times it would get too much statis to be enjoyed. I believe it can be watched online at PBS and I have been planning to watch it there again. Yes, I would like to find something at a sale or thrift store to find out ist is worth a small fortune. I would settle for even a small fortune,,,bigger would of course be wonderful. So far I have not found any valuable treasures, but will keep on looking cause that;’s the fun! And, the photos of the birds from your window are good – that’;s how I have been taking ones recently while I stayed indoors and enjoyed a cup of coffee!

It would be fun to find that little thing every one else just ignores jut to find out it is worth a fortune 🙂 🙂 But I’m not sure what to do with it after the show 🙂 I think I most probably wpould sell it otherwise someone just would come homa to steel it one day 🙂 🙂

I watch both the British and American versions of Antiques Roadshow. I always wonder what happens after the people find out their old family oddity is worth a bundle. How do you go home and put great granddad’s Native American blanket back on the chair that it has been draped over for the last 50 years when you’ve just been told on public television that it’s a National Treasure valued at half a million US dollars? And if they do, how do they sleep at night knowing that all the world knows they have this valuable thing in their living room? For me, it would no longer be a pleasurable oddity to own. I would have to put it on loan to the National Museum just so it would be safe. But I would ask for visiting rights. 🙂

I’ve noticed that tbe honeysuckle in the forest has leafs now 🙂 But perhaps they are old from last year. It is way to early anyway 🙂
If I had a national treasure I would give it to a museum but if it’s just valuable I would sell it 🙂 Asd You say, everyone would know I had it here at home and I’m pretty sure someone would steal it when I wasn’t at home one day. There would be no use to place it in a bank in a box, what use would it do there 🙂 🙂 🙂

I once had a drawing of a woman on fabric that was dated 1856 that I found at an estate sale. I put it in a cupbaord drawer so that it could lie flat.
Unfortunately there was a nail or something that was sticking out of the drawer above and ripped it. It was on the edge but everyone said it probably was ruined as far as the value. So I put it in a different cabinet and a puppy I had at the time, popped open the drawer and shredded it…..
to this day, I wonder if it was worth anything in the beginning.

The problem is that a painting doesn’t loose much value if ripped as long as it is restored again 🙂 But it is a bigger problem if a puppy shreddes it 🙂
But look at ity this way, It most probably didn’t cost You a lot so the only thing You lost was the money You payed 🙂
