I have been through worse.
I didn’t notice the storm that much yesterday to be honest. It came from west and the forest took most of it and since my cottage lies in a slope most of thge wind that actually got through the trees flew over my home. But late in the evening the wind changed direction and then it hit with full force 🙂 🙂 But I don’t think it lasted more than half an hour and then everything went calm again. I even had my washing outside to dry and nothing flew away 🙂
But some olane didn’t leave the airports and some trains didn’t go at all. 80 000 were without power and that was it. So it could have been much worse to be honest. This morning was absolutely calm and we had frost too. Now it will stay calm for two days and then more bad weather will come they say.
I won’t write anything tomorrow because I’ll be preparing for when they will check my stove and chimney on Wednesday morning. They will have to go in to the only closet I have in the cottage to see if the chimney looks ok and I’m not sure if they will go up on the roof as well. Not to good if a storm will arrive as they have predicted.
Now it’s time to make a pot of tea and some sandwiches. I bought walnuts today so I´ll bring my hammer with me when I go up to the tv 🙂 🙂 🙂 It is enough with one little knock on the right place and after that it’ll be easy to reach the nut 🙂

The storm hit Norway much worse anf four people out in a boat dies there.
We have lots of deers now and I think we can thank my neighbor for that because he didn’t allow anyone to hunt them on his property 🙂

Hey Christer as usual your blog warms my heart ! do you have inspection for stoves for insurance purposes ? we have to have good chimney and stove here or no home insurance . which is a bummer because those chimenies can be a big expence .
I so want it to storm here .we have had big storms of course but the best one we had was in 1986 it was 3-4 days and the whole city shut down .it wasn’t a wind storm just snow . the city was beautiful ☺
I have written alittle about my love of gnomes and elves and such and I was totally first influenced by my gramma .I think it was her German Swiis heritage coming out . I love the books Tomten books by Astrid Lindgren too and the art work .
My dh purchased a dog sled for our two dogs ! but now we need the snow lol .

No the law requires an inspection of all chimneys and fireplaces/heaters with some years in between. Mine is inspected every 8th year, if I had had my stove as the main heater for the house it would have been only twonyears in between. Many that uses a fire heated stove or fire place doesn’t know how to fire in it, so many accidents has happened. Often the whole house has burned down. If they would find that my stove or chimney is dangerous they instantly forbid me to use it. It is really expensive to restore a chimney but worth it in the long run.
We swedes do have a special love and connection with the gnome 🙂 and Astrid >Lindgren is our most loved author. In fact we love her ´children books so much that few other authors have had a chance to become popular 🙂 It is much the same today even if she has been dead for some time now.
I hope You’ll get snow now when You’ve gotten that dog sled 🙂 🙂

That is good news, Christer, that the storm wasn’t too bad. The photo of the fungus on the tree is splendid; it almost looks like a clam. Have fun cleaning out the closet, yuk! We have our fireplace and wood stove inspected and cleaned by a chimney sweep, but fortunately there is very easy access to the chimney and stove pipe. We don’t have a steep-pitched roof like your cottage. They do a video inspection down inside the chimney. Very nice gnome picture! Take care!

Change of plans though, the inspection is postponed until December 20th, the chimney sweeper got sick and can’t come. They used to do the inspection at the same time as they swept it but for some reason the new law demands that it’ll be done separate times.

hi christer! wow…when i think of how we baked when i was small, i remember sitting around a table and cracking nuts all day. now i just buy a bag of them shelled! we have a storm moving this way too but it is still very very warm! teddy just came home and has no cone! yeah!!! back to normal around here now. joyce

So much easier now days 🙂 The only time I buy whole nuts is during december. Otherwise I buy them without shells, nostalgia I suppose 🙂

Warm and grey here today. In the mid 60’s Fahrenheit. Very unusual weather for this time of year but I am grateful. There are still many months of cold ahead to make up for it.

Hi Christer, glad the storm didn’t cause any damages to your cottage. We have been so furtunate not to have had any bad storms, just heavy rains last week. In fact, the temperatures here are more like spring than late fall and Grenville and I would like some cooler weather. Today we found that ants had found their way into the kitchen, which is a problem we usually only deal with in the springtime, so now we are setting out ant bait traps. Hope your inspection goes OK with no problems found. Your photos made me want to make a cup of tea, except that it’s too late tonight.

I haven’t had any ant problems since I moved here and that’s a bit odd. But they tend to be more annoying the more south one lives it seems. I hope You’ll get rid of them quickley!

Love the evergreens. Mostly we have pines and cedar here. The little buy in the orange hat is adorable! My eight-year-old has really taken to cracking nuts this year. I am constantly sweeping up shells from all over the house! I really don’t mind, though!

Crdar doesn’t exicust in our forests but isn’t those that smells so nice? Spruce, pines, junipers and now days Larch trees are what we have. It is fantastic to walk around in a very old spruce forest 🙂
