Still limping around.

We went down to the bog when we came home.

Orvar limps around here in my kitchen and will continue to do so for a while. His ligaments around his shoulder is stretched and that´s why he is limping. They will tighten up again by themselves and it takes around 6-8 months, so it´s just to start hoping he doesn´t stretch them again during that time 🙂 🙂 🙂 There is a surgery that tightens them up but that will make him stiff in that leg and it isn´t a guarantee that he doesn´t stretch them again anyway.

So the best thing for him now is just to run around and have fun like he always do 🙂 But perhaps take it a bit more easy for a while 🙂 It doesn´t seem to hurt that much to be honest and it is only when he walks slowly that the limping starts.

The swedish name for this mushroom is Grape finger mushroom.

He was with me at work all day today and he got so happy when we finally got home again, but nothing compared to how happy Nova got when she saw him 🙂 She behaved like a little puppy and just couldn´t control her self 🙂 🙂 She ran around and jumped like crazy, she even forgot to bite Hector in his legs 🙂 🙂 🙂

It is time for a pot of tea and something to eat as well. I´ll soon continue with the swedish history during the war but be patient 🙂 Now I´m back to the real world again so no blog tomorrow and I´ll see You here on Thursday again 🙂                                                                 Have a great day!

  1. Christer, glad Orvar does not seem to be suffering from this shoulder stretching. How cute of Nova and her jumping around. I have to say these mushroom photos are stunning. My son is very interested in mushrooms and he will love seeing these.

    • Hi Robin!
If I understood the vet right he actually feels better when running. It helps the ligaments to get tighter in some way I guess.

I didn´t expect Nova to react like that since it always looks as if she likes Hector more.

I would have written the names on those other mushrooms but one is just to small and the one with the red hat is one of two that almost looks identical 🙂 🙂

      Have a great day!

  2. Hi Christer,
Swedish grapes have fingers!?! Who knew? 😀

So good that Orvar does not seem to notice the shoulder problem too much. Animals seem to just deal with it and get on with life as best as possible until it’s just impossible to continue.

Very lush and green in the bog now.

Enjoy the rest of the day.

    • Hi Caryn!
I have absolutely no idea how they came up with that name 🙂 🙂 🙂

The vet said he will feel much better faster if he can run around a lot, the muscles helps the ligaments to tighten up I guess. But this was nothing that will bring him to an earlier end thankfully!

The bog is as its best right now 🙂

      Have a great day!

  3. What? No comment from you on those Mushrooms? One looks like a stool you could sit on. You know, that one would also feed you all winter. And the other leaning a little looks like a dwarf with a hat on. Maybe you really do live in fairyland. And that first picture of Orvar against the trail with woods all around him is a great shot. Well, I’m glad you didn’t choose the surgery as it never works regardless. Not in cats and dogs anyway.

    • HI Z&M!
Not much to comment about them I guess 🙂 🙂 I only know the names for two of them and one is just to small and the other can be confused with another almost identical one.

Mushrooms are often drawn to look like humans in children´s books and they very often have red hats 🙂

Its no use to have surgery if it can´t guarantee a success for the rest of his life. So we´ll just keep on like normal when being out 🙂 He do love to run ahead of us when we´re walking 🙂

      Have a great day!

    • Hi Laurie!
The best thing is that he isn´t having any real pain 🙂
I do like these red capped mushrooms, well I like all kinds of red capped mushrooms and we have a few 🙂

      Have a great day!

    • Hi Kat!
My favorite is the Yellow finger mushroom 🙂 but all red capped ones are great as well 🙂
Perhaps they are from another galaxy, who knows 🙂 🙂 I wouldn´t be surprised if it was like that 🙂

      Have a great day!

  5. hi christer! good news about orvar! i guess he doesn’t like going to work too much either. he prefers being on vacation. are any of those mushrooms edible? i always wanted to learn how to gather mushrooms. my father and his father always did. all of my czech friends do too. so we are still in the dreaded cone. however, the pill to calm teddy before going to the vet worked like a miracle! it still has not worn off. sort of makes me think i should have some of those on hand for certain situations! joyce

    • Hi Joyce!
Yes it is! I´m so glad he doesn´t need surgery 🙂 Now days they all seem to connect my job with a visit to the vet 🙂 🙂 🙂

I think all those mushrooms are edible. However it is easy to get a bit confused because the red capped one is very much like a toxic one and the Yellow finger mushroom here is only one of several yellow ones. Some are edible and some are slightly toxic, but one doesn´t die eating them though.

I learned much about mushrooms when I was a kid so I know more about them than most I know.

Great that those pills worked so good! That muzzle itself creates bad feelings when she has to have it on. Soon she´ll be rid of that cone 🙂

      Have a great day!

  6. Yes, pets are much better at dealing with what life gives them than we are, I’m afraid. And, I’m tickled that Nova was so excited to see him come home. Means she definitely feels like she’s one of the pack, now, and not just a visitor.Loved all the pix and the greenness of the bog. Are those mushrooms edible? Just curious.

    • Hi Sharlene!
Yes they normally are but they do take advantage of it as well. How can one resist an animal that lift its paw, looking real sad, preferably limping some as well when one is about to eat something 🙂 🙂 🙂

It was great that she got so happy when Orvar came home 🙂 Yes she certainly see herself as one in the pack now 🙂

All those mushrooms can be mistaken for some that looks much the same but are slightly toxic 🙂 But I do think all these are edible. Especially the brown one is rather tasty 🙂

      Have a great day!

  8. Hi Christer-the walk about was magical. Loved the photos of the dogs in the woods, loved the mushroom photos too. We call those mushrooms coral mushrooms.

Thanks for taking me on a tour.

All joys to you and hope the limping slowly goes away and doesn’t stretch again.

    • Hi sharon!
I think coral mushroom would be a much better name in swedish too, they do look a lot like corals!

If Orvar only can stay away from to tough playing with his brother everything will be ok, but playing rough is sooo fun 🙂 🙂 🙂

      Have a great day!

  9. I’m happy to hear that home-care can be all that Orvar needs. I won’t want to do the surgery either.
I’ve seen people spend alot of money and their dog go through alot of pain and recovery time and there’s no guarantee that all will be perfect.
That is so sweet that Nova missed him!
Those mushrooms are so cool that they almost look like they aren’t real!
    Take care, Cindi

    • Hi Cindi!
Like You I don´t think its such a good idea to let him go through surgery especially since this might happen again and that his shoulder will be very stiff afterwards. Better to be home and get well during winter instead 🙂

It was nice to see her so happy 🙂 Now I know she feels like she belongs here 🙂

i´m thinking about making mushrooms in papier maché as christmas decoration. I wonder how bad they will look 🙂 🙂 🙂 But I would try for something looking like these I guess.

      Have a great day!
