Meeting aggressive dogs.

The day has been grey, gloomy and windy since early morning but I won´t complain as long as temperatures are over 0C (32F). It has actually been one of those days when it was quite nice to work because of that 🙂

The daylight starts quite early now, I can see how the horizon gets a bit lighter already when I get up in the morning just before 5 am. But the sun doesn´t show itself until 6:39 am and it went down at 5:50 pm. But it is still rather light outside until 6:40 pm, especially if there are no clouds in the sky.

We met a rather aggressive dog (almost as big as my boys) the other day when we were out walking, it hade broken free from its leash and ran straight towards us. When he, because I think it was a he, reached us teeth were shown and a deep growling started. He stopped with that when all three of my dogs did the same towards him 🙂 🙂 🙂 especially Nova showed him that he shouldn´t try anything 🙂 🙂 🙂 Even if it wasn´t especially nice to meet an aggressive dog it was quite nice to see how my dogs worked as a family even if Nova and Orvar isn´t especially good friends.

I didn´t take that many photographs today so I´ve just put in some older ones today.

Can You find Bertil?

I always think of Bertil as a cat with stripes, but he is really spotted.

The owner, a neighbors daughter, hadn´t noticed that he had run away and got real worried when I called her and the first thing she asked was if there´s been a fight. She looked rally surprised when I said that just teeth had been shown and some growling had occurred but nothing else. But I guess even the dumbest dog realizes when it´s useless to fight 🙂 🙂 🙂

You´ve seen almost an identical photograph of Nova before, but this time she looks in to the camera 🙂

It´s time to make a couple of sandwiches and perhaps a cup of tea too. I have to throw out some apples to Doris the doe too before going to bed tonight. She does love her apples that doe 🙂                                                                                                                                                     Have a great day now!

    • Hejsan Susie!

      Christer.

    • Hi Lois Morgan and welcome to my blog 🙂

I see myself as very lucky to be able to live in a place like this and with fantastic neighbors too!
I´m very glad You like coming here!

      Have a great day now!
      Christer.

  1. Nova has adopted you all as her family and will defend to the death. See? It all worked out — just like siblings. They can argue amongst themselves, but whoa to the outsider who tries to do the same! Enjoy your sandwiches and tea. I had some leftover Burger cup for lunch and it was even better because all the flavors had ‘married’ and made it oh, so, good. Have a great day!

    • Hi Sharlene!
Now we only have to make Orvar like her too 🙂 🙂 but as You say, outsiders best keep calm 🙂

I changed fro tea to Alp Yoghurt, the best yoghurt I know with lots of cloudberries in it 🙂

I can imagine how tasty that burger cup must have tasted today 🙂

      Have a great day too!
      Christer.

  2. Nova has a white patch on her chest. How cute is that?? Good that there was no dog fighting or the vet bills could have been hundreds to patch up the survivors. I don’t like cat fights either but they usually go quickly and the loser comes limping home. We are all on the watch for a limping Florida Bob Cat who stumbled into a neighbors yard and he hit her in the back with a baseball bat. Idiot! Now she limps off through the brush and preserve and could be as close as a 5 mile radius of our home. We watch often, as soon as we leave checking both the woods in the front and on the side yard. Everyone in our locale is on Bob Cat alert. We don’t really get them here and I’m guessing something that used to kill them off was killed off itself and the Bobs are on the wild again heading to what was their hunting land of North Merritt Island. That’s as the local stories go, original Indians killed them, forcing them to the mainland. Enjoy your lunch!

    • Hi Z&M!
It is cute and the fun thing is that my old Erna had one just like it too 🙂
If there had been a fight Nova would have been the dog making the worst injuries on that other dog. Bitches fights worse than dogs does and usualyy doesn´t stop until the opponent is badly wounded. So I am happy that the other dog realized that it was useless to fight 🙂

What´s wrong with some people!! Hit a bob cat with a baseball bat!!! I just don´t get it to be honest.

Have a great day and I hope You find that bob cat!

      Christer.

  3. The title of your post today made me a little anxious to read; I am glad the aggressive dog stopped in his tracks and did not pursue any further action! Good for Nova and her “way with words!, lol. The terrific trio stood together. I love your “can you find Bertil” (and can you find Doris) pix. This one took some looking. He blends in well. Good tea to you.

    • Hi Robin!
I´m really glad that nothing happened, because bitches fights much nastier and harder than dogs does. With the help of Orvar and Hector I would have had troubles explaining what had happened 🙂 🙂 But I realized that all three dogs sees themselves as a family and that´s good 🙂

I almost didn´t find him myself 🙂 🙂 🙂 He does blend in to the background 🙂

      Have a great day!
      Christer.

  4. Hi Christer,
I’m glad to know that this meeting did not end in jagged. It was only demo roar:) But I guess even a dog do math and realize that 3 is more than one:)
Oh I can see Bertil in middle photo:)
Here is a holiday, we are at the Carnival .. I do not like this party, too much noise and bad music:)
I imagine that for you it has not the slightest importance … but thought I would feel like a Swede in the middle of this party … Well, I think you would run somewhere quieter! That’s what I do!

    • Hi Didi!
Some dogs never realizes anything 🙂 🙂 🙂 But This one was a smart one 🙂 🙂

Oh we all know about the Carnival 🙂 We have a very small but similar in Gothenburg every year and every one can see that it´s influenced by Yours 🙂 But as You say, I would flee in to the forest and hide behind a tree 🙂 🙂 🙂

      Have a great day now!
      Christer.

  5. hi christer…..i think it is so cute that nova stood up for the family! i bet the boys really noticed that she did this. she is so smart! though we still have snow it feels like spring! mardi gras is tomorrow! joyce

    • Hi Joyce!
It felt good that she was allowed by the others to stand up for their rights too 🙂 That shows that they too feels like she´s one in the family.
It looks like Orvar is happier now too, even if he does avoid her as much as possible 🙂

      Have a happy Mardi gras!
      Christer.

  6. Your blog is a visit to a calming place. I live with chronic pain and always feel better seeing your beautiful images, and reading your text. I do hope I can get some days out with my camera soon. Thank you so much for sharing your surroundings and your beautiful animals with us.

    • Hi Nancy!
I live with chronic pain too and that pain always gets worse when I have to travel to the big city. The stress there just makes me feel awful. But going out here in the forest or to the bog or the fields and the pain is hard to notice 🙂

      Have a great day now!
      Christer.

  7. Hi Christer, when I read the post title, I was thinking there might have been a fight, but good to know your family stood together and that the agressor knew better. I suppose it’s always a risk one takes when the dogs are not leashed. But who would want to that when you are out in the forest? Glad all worked out OK.

    • Hi Beatrice!
For once my dogs were on a leash and the other dog was too, even if he had broken free from it 🙂 🙂 I´ve always felt that it´s easier to meet another dog if my dogs runs free, usually they stay away from that dog if they don´t know it. But everything worked out just great and I guess that dog won´t run to us the next time 🙂 🙂

      Have a great day now!
      Christer.

  8. An Ex-Wife had a Cocker Spaniel that was exceptionally dumb. At the time we had a small managere including a ‘killer rabbit’. None of the other animals would go near this rabbit except for this one dumb dog and he got scratched every time. The rabbit on the other hand was madly in love with my Black Lab Boo Boo and would find her and fall asleep on her. I’ll have to look for a picture of that.
Glad the ‘family’ stuck together. Hope the tea & sandwiches were good.
    Grenville

    • Hi Grenville!
🙂 🙂 🙂 as You say, some are just more dumb than others 🙂 and they do say that love is blind 🙂 🙂 But I think all rabbits are killer rabbits 🙂 🙂 Rabbits are the only animal I really stay clear from if possible 🙂

It was nice to see how they worked as a family when a threat appeared!

      Have a great day now!
      Christer.

  9. The bob cat was caught a mile north of here and is at the humane society to be cared for until they can find a habitat. We were still told to watch for more as for some reason they are moving north.

  10. That’s my biggest fear when I’m out walking my dogs. That some mean one will run up and try something. The terriers would go nuts but I’m not sure if they would actually fight or just freak out. Blue has gotten more aggressive the older he gets and I’m afraid it wouldn’t be pretty. But I also know that he can’t move as fast he he would need to in a bad fight. So I worry…..
I love that “Where’s Bertil!?” photo! I could NOT find him! How funny!
    🙂 – Cindi

    • Hi Cindi!
The dogs that lives here are all friendly so I have never really worried about meeting an aggressive dog 🙂 So I got a bit surprised to be honest. But I have to say that they all behaved perfect!

If You look at the little spruce in the photograph and then look slightly to the right You´ll find him 🙂 🙂 🙂 It´s not easy 🙂

      Have a great day now!
      Christer.
