Got a bit surprised.

They warned us that southern sweden would be hit by  a storm yesterday evening and the further south one lived the worse it would get. The roar from the winds started quite early yesterday evening, but the forest took all wind so it was almost absolutely still in my garden. When I woke up at 4:45 am this morning it rained too, actually it poured down and I was thinking that the rain at least would remove all old snow before the new one comes on Thursday.

All lying photographs gets bigger and better if You click on them.

So I have to say that I got really surprised when I opened my front door and realized that a blizzard just started 🙂 The rain and the snow made the roads slippery as soap and the winds made the car drive all over the road. Well I didn´t realize that until my car got hit on the side when I reached open fields 🙂 🙂 Sometimes there was so much snow that I couldn´t see the road but it was to late to turn back by then. So I continued to work instead.

It had become rather dark when I let Nova free from her leash so the photographs are blurry and somewhat dark even if I have made them lighter by editing them.

I saw one car in the ditch but they had already gotten help from other drivers so I kept on going very, very slow. A work friend of mine saw how a school bus was pushed of the road by the strong winds but it was to late for him to turn back to by then. Just as suddenly as it had started, just as sudden it stopped. The sun rose and the winds slowed down and the day became very pleasant.

I came home just when the sun had gone down behind the horizon and it was light enough to bring my camera with me on our walk. Unfortunately I missed the amazing sun set, an orange sun and the clouds colored from deep orange to deep purple. I saw it from my car though and all the time I wished that I could stop and take a photo of it with my mobile phone.

I let Nova run free half of the way home again and everything worked great. She played a lot with Hector and Orvar but most of the time she followed tracks from mice and voles 🙂 Bertil´s wound heals just fine and he did what he could to avoid me when I wanted to look at it and that´s a good sign 🙂 Now it´s time for some tea and sandwiches.                               Have a great day now!

      Christer.

  3. hi christer….sounds like really dangerous driving conditions. i never worry about my driving but i do worry about the other cars on the road. some people think it is macho to drive fast in the snow around here. i love seeing the dogs running and playing together. nova sure has settled in fast. we are really really cold here now. joyce

    • Hi Joyce!
If I had known how bad it was I would have waited to drive to work or not drive there at all. Yes there´s always those idiots that wants to be macho But I have to say that most of those driving at the same time as me in the morning do take it easy and I guess it´s those that doesn´t that we see by the side of the road 🙂

She´s a tough little lady and plays just as hard as my boys does 🙂 🙂
It´s getting colder here now too and tomorrow the snow will start to fall again.

      Have a great day now!
      Christer.

  4. Hi Christer,
Crappy weather to drive in. I woke to a bit of snow, a bit of rain, some sleet, some more rain, a little more snow and freezing pavements. I slipped and fell for the second time this week and this time I did some damage. I’ll be sore in the morning and I am not pleased. Now it is cold with a low wind chill factor.
Make sure about Bertil. Sometimes abscesses can look fine on the outside and the animal seems well but suddenly gets sick because the abscess worked its way inward.
Everyone looks happy running about in the field. Have a great evening.

    • Hi Caryn!
Yes indeed! If I had understood how bad it was going to be I would have stayed at home, there´s no use in risking ones life just to get to work.
To bad about Your fall! Nothing broken I hope! It´s not safe to walk even if one has spikes on the shoes.

I´m pressing around the wound and checking just what You wrote but it seems the wound is going to be fine. Like You say, abscesses can grow the other way and that can become really nasty.

They had so much fun in the field 🙂

      Have a great day now!
      Christer.

  5. Christer, glad the storm was short-lived and that you made it home OK. the photos of all the dogs running in the fields, while dark, were still very good action shots as I could just imagine them running after one another. Glad Bertil is doing better too – thanks for the updates. Our rain here was only overnight, but it was very windy all day today so much that we had to take down the flags on the front porch for fear they would get shredded.

    • Hi Beatrice!
I´m still surprised over how fast the storm ended. One minute it was blowing like crazy, the other no wind at all 🙂 🙂

They had such a good time and could have continued for long 🙂 But the sun goes down 4:40 pm so it still gets dark very early here.
Bertil´s wound did look nasty when I saw it the first time, but now the only thing that shows he´s been in a fight is that some fur is missing. But I will keep an eye on it for some time more.

      Have a great day now!
      Christer.

  6. Oh! The weather sounds terrifiying! I remember once going into a store after work and then coming out and finding a BAD snowstorm! It was SO quick and I was so scared driving home! I’m so glad you made it safely.
Love Love the photos! Just great!
It makes my heart so happy to see Nova enjoying her new life so much!
    Take care, Cindi

    • Hi Cindi!
Well it wasn´t pleasant 🙂 🙂 🙂 But it is strange how fast it can turn up and disappear!

They ran around like crazy yesterday and I feel that I don´t have to worry about her running away. Well not to her old home, but she wouldn´t hesitate to run after hares or deers I´m afraid 🙂 🙂 But this was a good start 🙂

      Have a great day now!
      Christer.

  7. The pictures of those dogs running free like that is the most wonderful sight to me. We used to take our dog to the beach and let her go and she would run circles around and around us until she just collapsed on the sand! It’s a wonderful memory…

We Californian’s have no clue how to drive in rain OR snow! 🙂
    Mona

    • Hi Mona!
They have so much fun now when Nova can run free too 🙂 Now they get along much better indoors too. But I have to check that there are no wild animals nearby because she is known to run after them.

Sometimes I wonder if we swedes knows how to drive in snow too 🙂 🙂

      Have a great day now!
      Christer.

      Christer.

  9. Was your car damaged from banging into the snow wall? I lost a tire hitting one of those hardened snow mounds. It’s great to live in Florida ehhh Christer? I watch you struggling up there and think the only smart persons are the dogs and Bertil.
    Enjoy the Snow!

    • Hi Z&M!
No it was the wind hitting my car in the side 🙂

I would love Your climate up here, but the climate change just fools us up here 🙂 🙂 🙂

We do have the language problems here in Europe and if I would get the chance moving south I really would want to know the language they use there. It´s easier in the US since You all speak english. Over here english isn´t a language everyone speaks or understands at all.

      Have a great day now!
      Christer.

  10. How fun to see them all running together and enjoying their own little world! I knew Nova would settle in, but I’m freezing to death watching them play on that ice and snow! This has been a hard week. My friend needed post-op care and he has finally been released by the doctor and I can get back home and catch up on so much! Please be very careful driving there. Don’t know where all this snow is coming from but at least we won’t have to worry about water tables!!! Enjoy your tea and the warmth of your cabin!.

    • Hi Sharlene!
It works much better when they are outside and can rung free, but she really doesn´t understand the signals when they think she is to pushy. So every now and again they have to show her who´s the bigger and stronger one 🙂 But it will work great in a while 🙂

I do drive carefully and I hppe all others are too 🙂 🙂

      Have a great day now!
      Christer.
